More than a dozen jail inmates have been charged with felony rioting and assault following an incident that involved three jail officers at the Wake County Jail.
The incident began when an inmate assaulted an officer just after midnight yesterday morning as officers closed a cell block in the jail in downtown Raleigh.
Wake County sheriff's spokeswoman Phyllis Stephens says other
inmates joined in on the attack.
One officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released. Stephens says the other two officers were not hurt.
Thirteen inmates have been charged with one felony count of inciting a riot and three counts of assaulting a government official.
