Stanly County Representative David Almond has resigned from the Legislature, a day after House Republicans said they were looking into allegations of "serious, improper behavior."
In a one-sentence letter to House Speaker Joe Hackney, the two-term lawmaker and insurance agent resigned his seat immediately
from the 67th House District.
House Republican Leader Paul Stam announced Almond's decision at a news conference but declined to characterize the complaint against Almond, who was in his second term.
The 59-year-old Almond took his House seat in the 2005 session and was re-elected last fall, representing Stanly County and parts of Montgomery and Union counties. He's a vice chairman of the House
committee on children, youth and families.
