A Beaufort County man who police say barricaded himself inside a barn and fired at officers will spend the next 23-1/2 years in federal prison.
Sherman Harrell of Belhaven was arrested back in October 2005 after the standoff with police after they tried to arrest him on outstanding warrants.
During the standoff police say Harrell fired at officers, and one of those bullets passed through one officer's trousers--narrowly missing his leg.
Harrell was convicted of possessing two guns and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
