Some rivers and creeks here in Eastern Carolina continue to rise.

Late Tuesday afternoon the Department of Transportation closed Speights Bridge Road, that's southwest of Walstonburg in Greene County, because of flooding.

In Craven County Streets Ferry road has has been closed for the past few days and motorists are forced to take a detour. Streets Ferry Road between Piney Neck Road and Main street in Vanceboro has been closed since this weekend.

The National Weather Service says flood warnings continue for the Contentnea Creek near Hookerton, the Neuse River in Kinston, the Tar River in Greenville and the Northeast Cape Fear River near Chinquapin in Duplin County.

In Kinston, the Neuse River should reach near 18 feet by Sunday evening. Wednesday evening the river stood at 16.5 feet. The weather service says at 18 feet there will be widespread lowland flooding and water will begin to approach some secondary roads in southeast Kinston.

The Tar River in Greenville stands at 15.8 feet Wednesday evening and is expected to rise to 16.0 feet early Thursday afternoon. At 16 feet they expect widespread lowland flooding adjacent to the river and some farmland will begin to flood across Pitt County.

The Northeast Cape Fear River near Chinquapin was at 13.5 feet Wednesday evening. The weather service says some minor flooding is now occurring, but the river is expected to fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.

Speights Bridge Road probably should have been closed this morning. I hit two bad spots and didn't know if I was going to make.

I was also curious about all of the water, so I emailed Marvin. He said we have had 29.96 inches of rain since November 1. Normal is 11.5, so we are almost 18.5 inches above normal.
