A task force created to study college campus safety after the Virginia Tech shootings says improved communication is one key to handling a similar emergency.
But the task force members agreed at a meeting yesterday at Shaw
University in Raleigh that it would be nearly impossible to create a single plan to cover all emergencies because campuses in North
Carolina all are different.
The panel was created by Attorney General Roy Cooper after 32
people were killed in April by a student gunman at Virginia Tech.
North Carolina is home to 36 private colleges and universities, 58 community colleges and a 16-campus public university system.
Officials say security at these campuses ranges from large police
departments to a single security guard at others.
