Edwards Expected To Announce Health Care Reform Details Today

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards plans to discuss his health care plan this morning in Detroit.

The former North Carolina senator wants to reduce costs by removing patents for breakthrough drugs and requiring insurance companies to spend at least 85 percent of their premiums on patient care.

Edwards is expected to discuss details of a universal health care proposal he released in February during this morning's appearance.
He wants to offer cash incentives to companies instead of
allowing them to collect huge profits from patents on breakthrough
drugs. Edwards says allowing multiple companies to produce the
drugs would drive down prices.

He says New York, Minnesota, New Jersey and Florida already
require insurance companies to spend 85 percent of premiums on
patient care.
