Edwards Raising Cash In Texas

Hundreds of people paid 15 dollars a plate yesterday at a fund-raiser in Austin, Texas, for Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards.

Edwards acknowledged that the Texas primary -- the first Tuesday in March -- is too late to spend significant resources campaigning in the Lone Star State.

Texas lawmakers this year rejected a proposal to move the primary election up to February fifth.

Edwards says anybody who's running a serious campaign realizes you have to be everywhere, and that's why he stopped in Texas.

But Edwards told the crowd of about 800 that you still have to allocate significant resources in places he calls "early states."

The former senator from North Carolina also talked about his plans for a phased-in troop withdrawal in Iraq.
