A piece of history found a new home Wednesday in the Chowan County town of Edenton.
The Roanoke River Lighthouse, originally built in 1886, was moved to Edenton Bay in Colonial Park. The lighthouse will undergo a complete restoration sponsored by the state and local groups.
Many people showed up early to bid goodbye to the landmark that was the second lighthouse to guard the mouth of the Roanoke River and Albermarle Sound.
After the restoration, town leaders plan to transform the lighthouse into a museum.
