A public memorial service today at Fort Bragg will honor paratroopers killed in battle.
The annual ceremony recognizes paratroopers killed in all wars. It's especially hard on Fort Bragg this year because so many of its troops have lost their lives since the last ceremony.
Fifty-nine soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division have been killed in combat since last Memorial Day. That include nine paratroopers killed in a truck bombing in Iraq last month -- the largest single deadliest attack for the 82nd Airborne since the Vietnam War.
Guest speaker at today's service is Lieutenant General Lloyd James Austin the Third, commander of the 18th Airborne Corps.
