The mother of a Cherry Point Marine who drowned while saving two young boys from the waters off Atlantic Beach, says he was raised to be a caring person who would help those in need. Marine Michael Wert was an intelligence specialist who died on Saturday saving the two young boys. Michael was raised in Alma, Michigan and came from a military family. His brother is currently in the Navy, and his grandfather was a Marine. His hobbies included spending time with his three children, and fishing. There will be a memorial service at Cherry Point Wednesday at 10 a.m.
