A single-engine plane en route to North Carolina from Georgia crashed near the Asheville Regional Airport today, killing the three men on board.
\Kathleen Bergen of the Federal Aviation Administration says air traffic control lost contact with the Cessna 182 about a mile and a half from the airport.
Officials at W-H Bud Barron Airport in Dublin, Georgia, say those killed were James V. Hilburn, Jefferson I. Davis the Third and James Rodney Connell.
Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue said if Davis was your friend, he loved you warts and all. Georgia House minority leader Dubose Porter says he was close friend with Hilburn and good friends with avis despite their political differences.
Jerry Pitts, co-owner of a car dealership, says the three men were flying to North Carolina to pick up a car Hilburn was buying for his wife. Pitts says Connell was to drive the car back to Georgia while Hilburn and Davis flew home.
