DETROIT -- Kid Rock and Stevie Wonder, Motown's original kid, joined other Detroit-style royalty to celebrate the 50th birthday of the iconic record label.

Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, along with the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, were among those on hand at the Motown 50 Golden Gala yesterday, intended to raise money for the Motown Historical Museum, the original home of Motown Records, which Gordy started with an $800 loan.

The label moved to Los Angeles in 1972 but Detroit's output included scores of hits, including "My Girl" by The Temptations and "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye.

Gordy says "Motown could not have made it in any other city."

Kid Rock performed with Wonder on the Motown great's songs "Living For The City" and "Superstition," bringing many of the people in the crowd to their feet. Kid Rock called it a "career milestone."
