Local Principal Gets State Honor

The Principal of Kinston High School in Lenoir County has been chosen as the 2007 Principal of the Year for the state of North Carolina!

Craig Hill, principal of Kinston High School in Kinston, North Carolina, has been selected as the 2007 Wachovia Principal of the Year for the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, The Principals’ Executive Program, and the Wachovia Corporation. The announcement was made at the state luncheon in held in Raleigh, NC Thursday, April 05, 2007.

The 2007 Wachovia Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or her personal use.

Craig Hill began his career as an educator as an elementary physical education teacher at Northwest Elementary School in 1982. In 1988 he moved to Kinston High School. Kinston High has been fortunate to have Mr. Hill as an Athletic Fitness & Health teacher (1988-1992), Comprehensive School Coordinator (1992-1997), Athletic Director (1998-1999), Assistant Principal (1997-1999), and Principal (1999-present).

Among his many accomplishments as principal has been his ability to secure financial support for his school. Mr. Hill has applied for and received over one million dollars in grants during his tenure.

Craig Hill is married to Gina Hill, a second grade teacher at Southwood Elementary School. They have two children, Kellan and Kristin and one grandson, Matthew.

Mr. Hill completed his undergraduate work at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and received his Masters of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
