Law Tied To Black Scandal Repealed

The legislative body once headed by Jim
Black voted Tuesday to undo a law tied to his plea bargains on
state and federal corruption charges.
The House voted 108-to-eight to repeal a special provision in
the 2005 budget bill that set co-payments for chiropractors at the
same amount as those paid to primary-care physicians.
In February, Black acknowledged that he took thousands of
dollars in cash from three chiropractors between 2002 and 2005
while pushing legislation that would help their industry. The
four-term speaker resigned from the House in February and is
awaiting sentencing on both federal and state corruption charges.
Lawmakers said that while the law itself may have been good, its
shady passage had tarnished the chamber.
