Dozens Of Sheep Removed From Apex Property

About 30 neglected sheep are being euthanized and an Apex man faces possible animal neglect charges.

Police and animal control officers removed around 60 sheep from the property near downtown Apex in southern Wake County. Officials say sheep lived downstairs at the crumbling house.

Michael Williams, Wake County's animal control director, says officials had investigated many complaints of neglect at the property, but had never found grounds for charges.

Apex detectives say they're waiting for a full assessment of the animals' health before pressing charges against the owner.

The remaining sheep are being nursed back to health at the county animal shelter and at a local farm.
