Vigils and fundraisers give way to more somber observances this week for 7-year-old Somer Thompson.

Investigators had more than a thousand tips but are still trying to figure out what happened when the child disappeared on her walk home from a north Florida school last week. Her body was found in a Georgia landfill Wednesday.

A public viewing is planned Monday and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday. Graveside services and the burial will be private.

At a fundraiser Sunday for Somer's family, children played in a bounce house as adults watched carefully. They vowed to find the girl's killer and raised about $18,500 so her mother doesn't have to go back to work immediately.

You can watch your child all the time. I have an over-protected son. I have watched everyone who comes in contact with him except at school. He has missed out on a lot of "rites of passage" but hopefully because of this, he will live to be a very old man. I have lost a child and let me say, there is no worse hurt than to bury your own child. It was over 19 years ago and I mourn him every day and he was only one-month old and never came home from the hospital. Can you imagine the memories this girl's family has of her, birthday parties, first giggle, first steps, blowing kisses and picking flowers. What a tragedy this is. It makes me sad and my heart physically ache that so many sweet, precious children of God are taken so young. I wish there were more to say. Even though a heart is broken, it goes right on beating. You can move on after this, but you will never move past it.
