Monday morning, Hardee's number one had a date with demolition.
The building on North Church Street in downtown Rocky Mount was razed to make way for a new era... a veteran's memorial will be built on the site to recognize local service men and women.
The restaurant known as Hardee's number one opened for business May 5, 1961. Longtime patrons of the restaurant remember its 15-cent hamburgers and 10-cent drinks.
Construction of the memorial is expected to be complete by November.
