Currituck Beach Access Stands

A ruling that kept three beach roads open to the public in Corolla will stand.

That's the word from the state Supreme Court.

The decision came in a long-running debate involving two homeowners' associations and Currituck County over whether one association and the county could close the roads, which had been used by residents of the other neighborhood.

A Superior Court judge ruled in the spring of 2005 that the roads should be opened, and the state Court of Appeals upheld his decision last June.

The Supreme Court heard arguments in February, but issued a ruling Friday saying it had "improvidently allowed" itself to review the case.

One homeowner who sought access says that means the appeals decision will stand and the roads will remain open.
