The investigation of Representative Thomas Wright's campaign finances has expanded now that the State Board of Elections has subpoenaed his bank records following a complaint.
State elections director Gary Bartlett said board investigators believe there is a "possibility of criminal violations" of the campaign reporting law.
Bartlett declined to comment on specifics of the case, saying details from the investigation will remain confidential for now.
Board investigators will provide their results to the board, which could hold a public hearing on the matter and make rulings, or refer the case to a local prosecutor.
Wright's attorney didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Bartlett said Wright told him that he and his lawyer were meeting to amend his campaign reports and complete a response to a complaint filed against Wright in December by a Democratic consultant.
The board issued a subpoena to Bank of America last week for all bank records related to Wright.
