Rescue personnel will begin a recovery effort today to find the body of a man who disappeared after a boating accident on Lake Norman.
The man's fiancee was rescued Thursday afternoon, but rescuers couldn't find the man after hours of searching the dark and cold waters.
Lincoln County's emergency management head Susan Spake says a man who lives along the shore on the Lincoln County side of the lake spotted a speedboat moving in circles around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. Spake says the man looked through binoculars and saw two people in the water.
Spake says the man called 9-1-1 as he rushed out in his own boat. The man found a woman and pulled her to safety.
Rescue workers arrived soon thereafter, but couldn't find the man who had been with the woman.
Spake says neither was wearing a life jacket or floatation device.
The woman was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, and Spake says she's expected to be alright.
