A report issued today offers suggestions on how North Carolina can combat the pollution that's responsible for global warming.
The report says the state should require utility companies to draw a certain amount of electricity from renewable sources. It also says a small surcharge on electric bills could help fund efficiency programs.
The ideas were among four recommendations from a coalition of 13 environmental, health and other organizations.
The most challenging recommendation calls for the state Utilities Commission to convene a group to study a redesign of the electricity rate structure to make efficiency and renewables more profitable.
