Camp Lejeune Marine Receives Medal Posthumously

An explosion by a rocket propelled grenade engulfed his humvee in flames, yet a Camp Lejeune Marine stayed...he stayed, in the flames and under fire, to engage the enemy in Iraq with his machine gun and let his fellow troops escape. Private First Class Enrique Sanchez survived with second degree burns, but he died during that same deployment in the summer of 2006,
when the vehicle he was riding in was struck by an improvised explosive device. Monday, Sanchez was awarded a bronze star medal posthumously in an emotional ceremony at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville. His grandmother accepted on his behalf. The bronze star medal is the U.S. Marine Corps' fifth-highest award for heroism in combat.
