Staff and patients at Durham V-A Medical Center have been sickened by a highly contagious stomach virus similar to one that affected two Greensboro hospitals last week.
Officials are asking all visitors, especially children, to stay away if possible. The 274-bed veterans hospital is affiliated with Duke University School of Medicine.
Officials were unable to provide an exact number of people sickened by the virus.
Last week, doctors in Greensboro confirmed an outbreak of norovirus, commonly called Norwalk or Norwalk-like virus. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, noroviruses are generally not fatal.
