The special prosecutor taking over the Duke lacrosse sexual offense case is no stranger to the legal spotlight.
Special Deputy Attorney General Jim Coman was appointed to the high-profile case earlier this month. Coman has prosecuted members of the Ku Klux Klan and even taken on some public officials in North Carolina. He's also gone up against one of the defense attorneys in the Duke case before.
Joseph Cheshire is representing one of the lacrosse players accused of attacking a stripper at a lacrosse team party in March. In 2003, Cheshire tried to convince Coman to drop charges
against a death row inmate. Coman chose to pursue the charges.
In the Duke case, Cheshire will again ask Coman to re-examine a high-profile case -- and drop charges.
