GPS Anklets Used On Domestic Violence Offenders

Persons charged with a domestic violence crime can now be strapped into a GPS anklet. The new GPS anklet monitoring program, which launched in Pitt County, is court ordered and can track an offenders every move. The anklet sends a message to officials once the offender enters a restricted zone. Officials and advocates say this program can better help protect victims. Currently, Pitt County is the only county in the state to have the GPS anklets. Officials will train four other jurisdictions next week in Greenville. Officials say there were four domestic violence homicides in Pitt County last year.
