New campaign finance reports show that
embattled House Speaker Jim Black relied on contributions from
fellow optometrists to win his November campaign.
More than half of the individual contributions Black received
from October 22nd through the end of December came from eye
doctors. Black narrowly defeated Republican Hal Jordan on November
Black has faced increasing scrutiny over the past year amid
ethical questions and legal troubles surrounding his campaigns. The
elections board ordered Black last year to forfeit over $16,000 he had illegally accepted from optometrists.
The Mecklenburg County Democrat announced last month that he
wouldn't seek a record fifth term as speaker.
