The future of the Ketner Boulevard and U.S. 70 traffic signal in Havelock has been in question since last summer. City leaders signed an agreement in June to build a new Wal-Mart. Part of Wal-Mart's stipulation was to have a new traffic light put in. The Department of Transportation tells us they have a policy for U.S. 70 that there can be no net gain in traffic lights, meaning if a new one comes in at Wal-Mart, then one has to go. Residents and business owners near Ketner Boulevard wonder why the state can't eliminate another light in town. In an effort to mediate between the signed agreement and concerned citizens, the city has offered $100,000 to repair the Ketner Boulevard intersection and offered up an alternate light to close.
