They may not be the first thing you notice when you visit the North Carolina Aquariums. But the aquariums might not be open without them. We're not talking about the rich variety of sea life, but the volunteers that greet guests and teach the aquarium visitors about stingrays, hermit crabs and horseshoe crabs. Though the position is popular, Windy Arey Kent, the education curator at the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, says the dedicated volunteers are essential for the North Carolina Aquariums. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores will host a volunteer open house on January 20th from 10 AM to noon.
