Authorities have arrested a Cary High School student for allegedly spiking a science teacher's water bottle with hydrochloric acid.
Wendy Beeber escaped injury when she realized that the water was tainted and spit it out before swallowing. Beeber was treated and released from Western Wake Medical Center.
Zachary Midgette is charged with assault on a government official. It's a misdemeanor which carries a maximum sentence of 150 days in jail. He was arrested yesterday.
Midgette is serving an automatic 10-day suspension pending further action. Under the policy he violated, the 17-year-old could be suspended for the rest of the school year. The maximum penalty is expulsion from the school system.
