Study Finds NC Leader In Inbound Migration

Americans continue to move to the West and Southeast, and an analysis shows many of them are moving to North Carolina.

United Van Lines has been tracking moving trends since 1977. The study of more than 227-thousand moves handled by the company in 2006 in the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia was released today.

North Carolina had the highest inbound migration with 64 percent of moves going into the state. Oregon was second at 62 and a half percent, followed by South Carolina at slightly more than 60 percent, and Nevada and Idaho and 59 percent.

At the other end, Michigan and North Dakota tied for the most outbound migration. Nearly two-thirds of all moves in both states were heading out. The analysis shows Americans are moving away from parts of the Northeast and Midwest.
