State Senator Robert Holloman, recently elected to his third term, died this morning at age 53, the second Hertford County lawmaker to pass away in as many days.
Holloman's office announced his death.
Senate leader Marc Basnight's office says Holloman died after a short illness.
Holloman, who lived in Ahoskie, was a pastor at Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. He represented seven northeastern North Carolina counties.
On Sunday, Representative Howard Hunter died at the age of 60 Hunter had been hospitalized in recent years, but a cause of death was not immediately available. Like Holloman, he was a Hertford County Democrat.
Governor Easley will appoint replacements to serve the lawmakers' two-year terms, which began January 1st. Democratic leaders from both Hunter and Holloman's districts will recommend those replacements.
