Binge Drinking Becoming Prevalent Among High School Students

A new report shows binge drinking is common among high school students, a behavior that can set them up for other risky situations.

The survey from the Centers from Disease Control included more than 15,000 people who were high school students in 2003. 45 percent said they drank alcohol within the month previous to the survey. Of those kids, 64 percent reported having 5 or more drinks in a row, which is also known as binge drinking.

Experts say binge drinkers were more than 5 times as likely to be sexually active, more than 18 times more likely to smoke cigarettes and more than 4 times as likely to have been in a physical fight.
