Charlotte Could End Up Getting Its Own Medical School

The board that heads Carolinas HealthCare System voted Tuesday to study the possibility of partnering with the University of North Carolina to start a Charlotte-based medical school. The proposed facility would expand an existing partnership between Carolina’s Medical Center and the UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. Many medical center faculty serve as adjunct faculty for the medical school, while many third- and fourth-year medical students do clinical rotations at Carolinas Medical. The proposed medical school would act as a branch campus of the UNC School of Medicine and could be affiliated with UNC Charlotte.
