Marine Commandant Visits Lejeune, Comments On Iraq War

The nation's top Marine says the fighting in Iraq has hurt the Marine Corps' ability to wage conventional war.

General James Conway, who took over as Marine commandant this month, says constant deployments to Iraq have downgraded the Corps' ability to "fight another nation's army." He was speaking today to two-thousand people at Camp Lejeune.

Conway also says he is trying to figure out the amount of time Marines stay at home after deployment so that they can get more rest, spend more time with families and get additional training.
