A nor'easter slammed into the Outer Banks a week ago causing nearly 2-million dollars in damage and washing away part of a pier. Preliminary damage assessments show the most significant damage occurred in the South Nags Head area and Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. T.J. Cary, owner of the Rodanthe pier tells us 125 feet of the pier washed away in the storm. The overall damage estimate for Rodanthe is 1.2 million dollars. Nags Head reported $750,000 in damage to 75 structures. Business owners say last week's storm hurt what could have been a lucrative holiday weekend. As for the pier, Cary says right now they plan to cap it off and not replace the length lost in the storm.
