Patriot surface-to-air missiles have been added to the permanent arsenal at Fort Bragg.
he first pieces of equipment arrived at an air defense battalion today. They're designated for the 3rd Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery a unit that once was part of the 82nd Airborne Division but separated during an Army reorganization.
It now is part of the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, expected to move to Fort Bragg next year from Fort Bliss, Texas.
Until the Patriots, the battalion was equipped with short-range Avenger missiles that could shoot down aircraft.
Officials say the battalion will now provide defense against threats ranging from unmanned drones to ballistic missiles.
