State Of Disaster In Columbus County

Governor Easley has declared a state of
disaster for Columbus County to help tornado victims pay for things
ranging from funerals to home repairs.
Easley has also received a disaster declaration from the U-S
Small Business Administration that provides low interest loans for
repairs.
The tornado, which hit Riegelwood early Thursday morning, left
eight people dead and several others injured. About 100 people were
displaced from their homes.
The disaster declaration means those who suffered losses in the
storm can get money from the state. The maximum eligible award is
$28,000
Home owners and renters are also eligible for property damage,
and grants are available to pay for medical and funeral expenses.
Applications are being accepted at the Riegelwood Baptist Church
beginning at noon Saturday.
