Fort Bragg To Enforce Cell Phone Rules

Drivers on Fort Bragg could soon pay as much as $75 if they talk and drive without a hands-free device.

Beginning December first, the base will enforce a ban on the use of cell phones by drivers who don't use a hands-free device. Violators could pay as much as $75.

Pope Air Force Base banned drivers' use of cell phones without hands-free devices in September 2005.

Military police will begin issuing traffic citations with fines of up to $50 plus a $25 processing free.

In April 2005, the Defense Department told the Army, Navy and Air Force rewrite traffic policies on cell phones.
