The Pirate Marshall game was more than just about football. A plaque honoring the 1970 Marshall team was unveiled Saturday at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The plaque commemorates the tragic crash of the teams charter plane nearly 36 years ago. The plane crashed on its way home to West Virginia after losing to ECU in Greenville. All 75 people on board died. Both schools chancellors, athletic directors and a large gathering of Herd fans were on hand for the cereomy.
The plaque is located on the visiting teams entrance at the stadium.
