Morgan Served With Federal Subpoena

House Speaker Pro Tempore Richard Morgan says he has been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury in Raleigh.

Over the past several months, jurors have called witnesses associated with embattled House Speaker Jim Black.

Morgan, a Republican from Moore, has been asked to testify and
provide documents on numerous topics. Morgan says he's happy to cooperate and answer all the questions he's asked. He says he doesn't know what information the U-S Attorney's Office thinks he can provide.

The grand jury has called witnesses associated with Black and his campaign finances, but it's unclear whether Morgan was called by the same federal jury.

Morgan and Black, a Mecklenburg Democrat, were co-speakers of the House during the 2003-2004 legislative session.
