Fort Bragg Commander Says BRAC Will Be A Boon For Area

The commanding general of troops at Fort Bragg says the Sandhills should get ready for an economic boom that rivals the experience of businesses around Research Triangle Park.

Lieutenant General John R- Vines met today with reporters at the
base and talked about changes that will come over the next several
years due to the Pentagon's base closing and realignment plans. Two
major military commands will join the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.

Vines said towns around the area will be challenged to provide roads, schools and a hospitable environment to the new units and the businesses that follow them. He says the economic impact could
be in the (B) billions of dollars, and could change the face of the
Sandhills region, much as R-T-P's presence changed its neighboring
towns.
