Marines Say Settlement Doesn't Erase The Need For Air Space

The Marine Corps says a court settlement that eliminated a training area over the Mattamuskeet wildlife refuge doesn't mean the issue is dead.

A spokesman said today the Corps still needs more air space over
eastern North Carolina for training. A Marine Corps statement the
settlement will be reviewed and officials will conduct environmental studies that a judge had ordered.

The lawyer for environmental groups that sued the Navy and
Marines says the settlement doesn't prohibit the military from
seeking additional airspace in the future.
