Prison inmates collected more than 67-thousand bags of litter from North Carolina roadways during a two-week cleanup last month.
Project coordinators said today that the 2006 Fall Litter Sweep,
covered more than 65-thousand miles of road. It was completed by
inmates who worked more than 96-thousand hours.
Similar projects have been completed by volunteer organizations,
local governments, schools and businesses in all of North
Carolina's 100 counties.
