Three people with ties to East Carolina University have been indicted following a probe into the alleged misuse of funds at the financial aid office.
According to court documents, Debra Cherry Albritton, a former financial aid administrator, and former student Michael Elliot Smith, and current student Keith Peten, were all indicted Monday on three charges each. The three were allegedly soliciting ECU students telling them they were eligible for financial aid if they paid a portion of that back to them. This investigation had nothing to do with a recent audit of the Brody School of Medicine's financial aid office. That investigation revealed that there was no wrong doing with the Brody School's office.
