College Students Volunteer More

A new study says more and more college students are volunteering their time instead of partying. That's especially true at one North Carolina college, which is due to receive an award for volunteerism this week.

The study by a federal agency says the number of college
students volunteering grew more than 20 percent from 2002 to 2005.

Altogether, about 30 percent of college students are volunteering,
most commonly as tutors or mentors.

Efforts at three schools are being rewarded tomorrow with the
first-ever President's Higher Education Community Service Honor
Roll awards. North Carolina's Elon University is one of them.

The others are California State University at Monterey Bay and Indiana
University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
