Boil Water Advisory: Parts of Pamlico County

There is a boil water advisory in effect for some residents in Pamlico County.

A water line break is causing periods of low pressure, as well as outages. There is a potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Authorities are urging consumers in the vicinity of Highway 55 and Kershaw Road, as well as Oriental Plantation, Buccaneer Bay, Straight Road and Teaches Cove road to boil all water for human consumption or use bottled water until further notice.

The advisory applies to water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and washing hands.

Authorities say vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organism that may be present in the water. Boiling water concentrates any levels of nitrates that may be present in the water. Infants below the age of six months and pregnant women should use an alternate water supply whenever possible.
