An investigation is underway in Onslow County after six 55-gallon drums of used oil were found in an Onslow County park Wednesday evening. While none of the oil was emptied from the containers, authorities are searching for those responsible. Investigators say it is is a felony to improperly dispose of oil. Onslow County emergency management said a marking on one of the barrels indicates it originated from Camp Lejeune. If the oil had touched the ground officials said the cleanup cost and environmental impact would have been huge. This isn't the first time this area of Onslow County has dealt with illegal dumping, but environmental officers say it's the first time they've faced the illegal dumping of petroleum products.
