A two-year-old child is dead after authorities say he was mauled to death by a dog. The Greene County Sheriff's office says the two year-old boy was playing outside in his grandmother's yard on Hillindale Drive in Snowhill Tuesday when a neighbor's Rottweiler dug out from its pen and attacked the child.
Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith says deputies shot and killed the dog when they arrived on the scene because it was still acting vicious.
The owner of the dog is out of town. Smith says he'll have to talk to the district attorney about any possible charges, but believes it will probably be a civil matter.
