A Courthouse Torn Apart by Hurricane Isabel Is Getting a New Life

The old Hyde County courthouse fell victim to Hurricane Isabel in 2003 and health officials deemed the building unsafe. The county has received several million dollars in grant money to build the new facility from FEMA and U.S.D.A.. According to officials, the new 7600 square-foot courthouse and administrative building includes a 15,000 square-foot county administration facility, a 16,000 square-foot public safety facility and a 32 bed detention center. Construction is expected to be complete in several months.
