On Friday, a local post office said goodbye to a familiar face who has been serving his community for 40 years.
USPS officials said clerk Perry Welch has been working at the Kinston Post Office for four decades now.
Welch hung up his blue button down shirt at a special ceremony Friday morning.
"I'm looking forward to it so I can move on," said Welch. "Because you know, it's very, very confining to work six days a week. So it'll be nice not to have to worry about going to work."
Welch started at the Kinston plant in 1973 and has accumulated 48 years of government service in total.
The USPS said Welch's employment record is a standout record across the state.
